lunch time in the garden

my cucumbers are growing the wrong way... which is away from the trellis ...what do you recommend to do?

  1. Tieing them up with a string and get their feelers close to the trellis and wrap around. I had to do that this year.

  2. We let ours grow long enough until we can place the vine onto the trellis. We also trim leaves along the bottom of the plant to prevent cukes from growing along the ground. If you do that, make sure the base of the plant is protected from the sun via mulching or other plants (we use mulch and bush beans!).

  3. Lift them up and put them where you want them. Tie them on if necessary. The tendrils should take over after that.

  5. @GJ: That's what my wife said ... she said "who cares which way they are growing, as long as they produce" ... so I take it in stride, but my ocd kicks in and I "need" them to grow up the trellis that I built ... lol

    1. I hear ya! I also tie my wayward cukes up as needed, as the others have commented;it is better for them as you know. They do look great though!
